How to get there?

The Lagos area is perfect for visiting by car. As well as having your own autonomy, you can easily choose between beaches or other places to explore, without being dependent on tours or public transportation. If you’re leaving from Lisbon, the quickest way to get to Lagos is via the A2 highway.

However, if you are a fan of intense and exciting landscapes, you can choose to travel along the coast on the national roads. This is a longer journey, but trust us, the natural beauty will leave you absolutely breathless!

However, if you can’t rent a car, there are plenty of options for getting around. For train lovers, it is possible to make this romantic journey on rails. We advise you to take the Alfa-Pendular train, as it is the fastest train and takes just about three hours. All of hese trains will stop in the city of Faro and, from there, you should choose to take a regional train to Lagos.

Finally, you have the bus option. Portugal has a wide network of buses that make direct journeys between cities. So, if you leave from Lisbon, you can get to Lagos in three hours and forty-five minutes, more or less.

What to discover in Lagos?

There are many attractions to be found in this wonderful city, from ancient Moorish walls to churches with Baroque architecture.

But, without a doubt, one of the main tourist attractions is its marina, made up of a small fishing port and a modern maritime complex. In the southern part of the town is a small peninsula called “Ponta da Piedade”.

This promontory, sculpted by the sea and the wind, is made up of several cliffs, caves and sea caves.

Day 1 of 3-day itinerary in Lagos

Start your day with a beautiful stroll along the estuary. Adjacent to this is the historic center and several monuments that you will surely love.

Explore the pleasant shopping streets, the charming Ponta da Bandeira Fort, Santo António Church, the old city walls and the Slave Market.

This place was the first slave market in Europe and was later converted into a customs house. In the afternoon, we suggest you discover Ponta da Piedade. Lose yourself among the golden cliffs sculpted by the power of the ocean.

This place can be visited on foot or by boat. Boat trips depart from the Lagos Marina and take around ninety minutes.

Day 2 of 3-day itinerary in Lagos

Ready for day two? We know you are! We start with a walk along the coastal trail from Porto de Mós to Praia da Luz, where you’ll be dazzled by the panoramic views.

It’s lunchtime and there’s nothing better than enjoying a delicious seafood dish at one of the many restaurants available.

Finally, take the afternoon to relax on the golden sands of Praia da Dona Ana.
